Myrtle Falls & Edith Creek

Paradise Mt. Rainier

If this is your first time visiting Paradise at Mount Rainier, make sure you don’t miss Myrtle Falls and Edith Creek. This stunning waterfall and mountain creek is just an easy 0.4 mile paved trail from the Paradise Inn parking lot. Even if you have been to Mount Rainier dozens of times, this is a sight you can see over and over again yet still be awed and amazed each and every time.

Edith Creek

Because the waterfall is such a short distance from the visitor center, the trail is kid friendly, stroller, and wheelchair accessible. The hike is one of the most popular destinations in the park. Not to mention there are incredible views. This beautiful destination can be visited year round but due to the shear amounts of snow Mount Rainier receives, getting to the falls during winter is often quite difficult.

Myrtle Falls

Myrtle Falls drops a stunning 72 feet with Mount Rainier looming above in the background. This postcard-worthy site is one of those spots where you look back on pictures after having been there you go, “Wow! I can’t believe I was there!” Myrtle Falls was given its name by a former guide, Julius Stampfler, in 1907 when he named the falls after a woman he had met when giving a guided tour of the mountain.

Just above Myrtle Falls is a wooden foot bridge where you can either look down and see the water cascading below or look up toward Mount Rainier and Edith Creek.

Insider tip:

To avoid the crowds, make sure you visit Myrtle Falls and Edith Creek either early morning or around sunset. During the week the falls tend to be less crowded.

Paradise Meadows and Edith Creek are just as stunning, if not more so, than Myrtle Falls. This pristine creek cutting through the rolling green valley filled with vibrant pops of color from all the wildflowers is a sight you should not miss.

Directions to Edith Creek & Myrtle Falls from the Paradise Parking Lot: Leaving the Paradise Inn parking lot, look for signs to the right toward the Skyline Trail or Golden Gate Trail. Myrtle Falls can be found 0.4 miles down the trail. Heading straight along the Skyline trail will take you to the bridge overlooking Edith Creek with the horsetail shaped Myrtle Falls dropping down below. There is a short side trail before the wooden bridge walkway that leads to a scenic viewpoint where you can see the full 72 foot drop of Myrtle Falls.
