What Is the Seattle Terrors Ghost Tour?

Seattle Terrors is part of US Ghost Adventures, a company that offers paranormal ghost tours, haunted pub crawls, historical walking tours, and even overnight stays in famous haunted locations like The Lizzie Borden House, The Villisca Axe Murder House, and The Welty House, among many others. With tours and experiences in over 170 cities across the United States, US Ghost Adventures gives visitors a fascinating glimpse into the haunted past and history of each city.

The Seattle Terrors tour specifically dives into some of the city’s most infamous stories — from corruption and scandals to tragedies and eerie encounters people have had with the paranormal — all of which shaped some of the darker side of the Pacific Northwest’s history. Even if you’re more interested in true crime and historical stories than the paranormal, this tour is packed with intriguing details and offers plenty for history buffs, crime enthusiasts, and thrill-seekers alike.

Overview of the Seattle Terrors Ghost Tour: Sinister Sins, Scandal, and Shadows

If you’re looking for a fun, spooky night out in Seattle, the Sinister Sins, Scandal, and Shadows: Seattle Ghost Tour is Seattle’s #1 rated ghost tour and is a super fun way to explore Seattle.

This one-hour outdoor walking tour (around $26 for adults as of September 2025) takes you through some of the city’s most haunted corners while sharing tales of ghostly apparitions, scandals, and the darker side of Seattle’s history. Just make sure to wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather. This outdoor walking tour operates rain or shine, and Seattle weather can be unpredictable!

Want even more chills? The tour offers a Bonus Extended Tour Upgrade for just $7, adding up to four extra haunted locations and about 30 more minutes of eerie stories. It’s a great way to sneak in even more of Seattle’s haunted past. I felt that this really added to the whole tour experience and was 100% worth it.

Now I don't want to give everything away but some of the stops along the way include well-known spots like Post Alley, Pike Place Market, the Moore Theatre, Kelly’s Irish Pub, and more. Each location comes with its own real-life stories, tales of ghost sightings, and history. Some of the ghost stories and reported encounters were seriously cool to hear about.

Along the journey, you’ll also hear about serial killers, cults, and how some of Seattle's history, like the Alaska Gold Rush, shaped the city’s darker side. Even if you’re not into ghost hunting, the blend of history, true crime, and spooky storytelling makes this tour a fun, unique Seattle adventure.

You can even rent an EMF Activity Detector for $7.00 and see if it lights up in more of the haunted locations.

Our Experience on the Seattle Ghost Tour

This Sinister Sins, Scandal, and Shadows ghost tour in Seattle was such a cool experience. Growing up here in Washington State, I definitely learned a few things that I never knew about our local area. Some things I had heard about, but others I had never heard before. The vibe was a lot more fun than I expected, and I had a really great time.

Our guide, Gavin, was absolutely fantastic—he had the perfect mix of humor, suspense, and historical knowledge. You could tell he was genuinely passionate about Seattle’s past, and that energy made the stories come alive. From haunted buildings to shadowy alleyways, he painted vivid pictures of the crimes, scandals, and sinister events that unfolded right where we stood. The way he animatedly described people’s encounters with lingering spirits gave the whole experience an extra layer of goosebumps.

Walking through the city at night gave the tour an extra layer of atmosphere. We took the earlier tour at 7 pm, where the first few stops were in daylight, but the later stops in the tour were in the dark. Seattle has so much character after dark with the bright red lights of Pike Place Market glowing overhead and some of the wite string lights above post alley, and hearing these creepy stories while standing right in front of the locations at night really made the history come alive. I highly recommend taking the later tours, like the 8 pm or 9 pm if you can. The dark really added to the vibe.

Pro tip: Eat before the tour! Seattle restaurants tend to close earlier than you’d expect, and after our tour my brothers and I had a tough time finding a spot still open for a late-night bite.

I highly recommend having at least one person in your group rent an EMF Activity Detector for $7. I think it might be overkill for everyone in your party to get one, but having a detector to pass around can make the experience so much more fun. At some stops, the device barely flickered, while at others it lit up like crazy—especially in a couple of locations. Having grown up watching shows like Ghost Hunters and other paranormal investigation series, it was such a cool experience to hold one and see the readings change right where these supernatural stories took place.

While we did not see any ghosts, I loved hearing about all the different encounters tied to these historic spots, from the faint whiff of phantom cigar smoke to full-on apparitions. The stories kept me hooked. The tales ranged from fun, playful, and friendly ghostly encounters to spine-tingling run-ins with more vengeful spirits. Places like Kells Irish Pub, the old Butterworth & Sons Mortuary on busy First Avenue, and The Can Can, a haunted basement-level burlesque bar, and many other spots along Post Alley and around Pike Place Market each had their own mix of creepy energy and paranormal stories.

We also chose to do the extended version of the tour, which adds four extra stops around downtown Seattle. Honestly, I think it’s worth it—the extra stories and locations gave us even more perspective on the city’s haunted past. Even with the bonus stops, the whole tour lasted just under two hours, and it flew by!

From start to finish, the Adventure Hike Travel crew—Robert, Jason, and me, Samantha—had an absolute blast. We’d definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Seattle who loves paranormal and history!

What to Expect During the Tour

This tour is all about history and storytelling—and that’s exactly what makes it so good. You won’t find jump scares or staged gimmicks here. It’s less about trying to spook you and more about pulling back the curtain on the darker side of Seattle’s past and the strange experiences people have reported over the years. I had no idea so much creepy stuff had happened around Post Alley.

Keep in mind, this is an outdoor walking tour. You won’t be going inside the buildings, but you’ll stop outside some of Seattle’s most historic (and haunted) spots while your guide brings the stories to life. There’s quite a bit of walking involved, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather—especially since Seattle nights can be unpredictable!

Who Will Enjoy the Seattle Terrors Tour?

I’ve always been fascinated by paranormal stories, so this tour was super interesting to me. But honestly, it’s not just for ghost enthusiasts. If you’re into true crime documentaries, local history, or just enjoy uncovering the hidden side of a city, you’ll find plenty to love here.

For example, I could easily see myself bringing my mom—she’s a historical romance author—on this tour in the future. I think she and her writer friends who write historical fiction would find it especially valuable for the rich details about Seattle’s past, particularly during the Alaska Gold Rush days. Or even taking one of U.S. Ghost Adventures' other tours in another state.

There were a lot of cool facts that I learned about Seattle’s history. A ghost tour like this doesn’t just give you spooky stories—it also gives you a fascinating glimpse into the city’s hidden past. Whether you’re in Seattle or take a U.S. Ghost Tour anywhere else, these kinds of tours are such a fun way to discover unique local history you’d never find in a textbook.

Tips for Your Seattle Ghost Tour

If you’re planning to go:

  • Wear comfortable walking shoes — the tour covers a good stretch of downtown.

  • Bring a jacket or rain jacket — Seattle nights can be chilly, even in summer. Tours are also held rain or shine.

  • Arrive at least 15 minutes early so you don’t miss your group.

  • Keep your camera ready — while filming isn’t allowed (company policy to protect the stories), you can take photos of the spooky locations.

  • Bring cash to tip your guide

  • Eat dinner before your tour! Seattle restaurants close down early, and planning on eating after your tour may leave you with few food options.

Where to Grab a Bite Before or After Your Tour

If you’re planning on making a night of it, there are plenty of great spots nearby to grab food or a drink before (or after) your ghostly adventure:

  • The Pike Pub & Brewery – This is where we stopped before our tour for a quick bite and a drink. Super close to the tour’s starting point and always a fun, lively atmosphere.

  • Old Stove Brewery – Known for its amazing food and drinks, plus plenty of space to relax before diving into Seattle’s haunted history.

  • Kells Irish Pub – Not only a cozy spot for hearty food and drinks, but also one of the haunted locations featured on the tour. Eating here adds an extra spooky layer to the experience!

  • The Alibi Room – Another stop on the tour, tucked away near Pike Place Market. I’ve heard their pizza is fantastic, and dining in a haunted spot makes it even more fun.

Final Thoughts

The Seattle Terrors Ghost Tour: Sinister Sins, Scandal & Shadows was the perfect mix of creepy, fun, and educational. What I loved most is that it wasn’t about cheap jump scares—it was rooted in real Seattle history and the true paranormal ghost stories people have reported over the years. I loved hearing the different stories of people’s experiences with strange sightings and ghostly activity—it really made the history come alive.

This tour is a unique and memorable way to spend an evening.

We’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for more US Ghost Adventures tours in other cities during our future travels—and honestly, I’d love to take this one again and share it with friends and family I know would enjoy the experience.
