Are you planning a camping adventure with friends and family? Car camping is continually getting easier with the creation of new gadgets, tools, and accessories. In this blog post, I share 10 of my favorite camping items to give you some gear ideas to make your camping trip more enjoyable and comfortable.

Jetboil

Gone are the days of shivering in the cold waiting forever to boil water to make a hot cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. When you are freezing in the snow or just sitting in camp in cold temperatures every minute matters.  Before getting my Jetboil it took several long minutes to heat the water to make a hot cup of coffee and now I can have hot water within 30 seconds. This tool is fantastic! It is easy to use and gets the job done fast. I take my Jetboil with me on camping, backpacking, and even day hikes and picnics.

Camping Kitchen Equipment Set

It is super handy to have everything you need to cook in a contained set. You can just grab it and go. This cookware bag has all the essential cooking utensils and is a game changer for staying organized and having all your cooking cookware utensils.

Phone Power Bank

When camping or backpacking I always bring a Power Bank battery pack. Having the ability to recharge your phone is super helpful. Even if you are not in a cell service area your phone can hold topo maps and can work as a flashlight or as your camera to capture pictures. Having a power bank to charge your phone is awesome.

Cast Iron Reversible Rectangular Grill/Griddle

When I first started collecting my own camping gear, I got a round pan and skillets but over time I upgraded to a Cast Iron Grill & Griddle. In a pan or skillet, I could only cook 2-3 burgers at a time and the third wouldn't be cooked as even. With this flat cast iron grill/griddle, I am able to evenly cook 6 burgers at once or cook burgers and start toasting buns. I absolutely love this tool for all my camping trips or even grilling up food in the ski resort parking lot on the tailgate of my truck.

Propane Camping Stove

I love having a propane stove while camping. Although there are lots of meals that you can cook over the campfire it is convenient to have a propane camping stove. Sometimes you want to cook breakfast fast then go on a hike and if you do not wish to make a fire to cook then put it out right away. I also often use my propane camping stove when grilling up food on the back of my truck's tailgate after a long day of snowboarding. Camping stoves are definitely on my must-have gear list for camping.

A High-Quality Cooler with Rubber Latches

For years I have only used the cheapest coolers I could find. Eventually, I upgraded to a more mid-range priced cooler. But still, within 1 or two days all the ice would be melted. About two years ago I took the plunge and upgraded to a higher-quality cooler with rubber latches and it has been a total game changer. I got the Lifetime 48 Quart High-Performance Hard Cooler Click Here to Shop on Amazon. The Lifetime 48 Quart High-Performance Hard Cooler has a 7-Day Ice Retention. I love that everything stays cold and does not instantly melt getting my food all soggy. I love the rope handles that make carrying this thing and the rubber latches really keep this cooler secure.  Another cool feature about the Lifetime 48 Quart High-Performance Hard Cooler is that it is certified bear-resistant and can withstand a bear for up to an hour. Hopefully, I won't need to test that but I like knowing that this cooler is bear-resistant.

Headlamp

A lot of times when camping you need your hands free for other tasks. If you are grabbing firewood in the dark or trying to crank a pop-up tent trailer, or cook dinner or setting up a tent in the dark it is hard to hold a flashlight. That is why having a headlamp is on my must-have list for camping. Headlamps definitely make life easier. It makes setting up a tent in the dark or grabbing firewood without stubbing your toe so much easier.

Camp Storage Bins

Having a way to organize your gear is a must when camping. I have several different-sized plastic storage bins that are all set up and ready to grab anytime I want to go camping. You can even have smaller bins within the larger ones. You can have a bin for your cooking and kitchen equipment and other bins with other supplies.

Folding Table

Not all campsites have a table especially if you are doing dispersed camping. Even if your campsite has a table, having a secondary table set up for another purpose can be extremely helpful. You can have a food serving table or a table that holds your camp stove and works as a cooking station and use the other table for sitting. Having a collapsible folding table is definitely on my list of must-haves for car camping. I often pop up one of these tables after a long day of snowshoeing or snowboarding in the ski resort's parking lot and cook up some burgers.

Portable Propane Fire Pit

With climate change, there are unfortunately more and more forest fires and fire bans. Camping without a campfire isn't as fun. But there is a legal alternative. Propane Fire Pits! Propane fire pits are often still allowed during most burn bans. It is important to check out the regulations for your local area. These smoke and ash-free gas fire pits give you the feel of having a campfire without having a real fire. I first came across portable propane fire pits when I was camping during a burn ban two years ago. The state park we were camping at had these propane fire pits available for rent. These portable propane fire pits are often allowed at high-elevation campgrounds such as at the Grand Canyon where normal fires are banned but propane fires are allowed. This is a super cool camping gadget which is a great way to have that feel of sitting around a fire when you may not be able to have a real wood fire.
